Golf in Spain

Costa del Sol, Murcia, Mallorca and the Canary Islands offer winter golf with a large choice of resorts.

Spain has the widest spread of golf resorts in continental Europe. The Costa del Sol between Malaga and Sotogrande is the best known cluster and works well as a single base with many courses in range, while Murcia, Valencia, Mallorca and the Canary Islands each support their own resort scene. Winter is peak season on the mainland south coast, and the Canaries stay warm enough for golf all year. Course styles vary from mountain layouts with big elevation change to flatter resort courses that suit higher handicaps. Buggies are standard and often required. Because there are so many courses, it is worth matching the itinerary to the group rather than chasing only the highest profile names.

Best time to play: November to April on the mainland south coast; the Canary Islands play well all year.
