Golf in South Africa

Strong value, high quality courses and a summer season that runs opposite to Europe and North America.

South Africa offers a rare mix: championship standard courses, favourable exchange rates for many visitors, and a season that runs from October to April while the northern hemisphere is in winter. The Garden Route on the southern coast is the densest golf cluster, Cape Town adds mountain and coastal layouts, and the Johannesburg and Pretoria region has a high concentration of parkland courses at altitude, where the ball travels noticeably further. Many trips combine golf with wildlife or wine regions, which changes the pace of an itinerary and usually means longer drives between bases. Caddies are widely available and inexpensive relative to other markets. Book ahead over the December and January domestic holiday period, when local demand peaks.

Best time to play: October to April; the Cape is best from late spring through autumn.
