Golf in Dominican Republic

Caribbean resort golf with several oceanfront courses and a strong all inclusive hotel base.

The Dominican Republic is the most developed golf destination in the Caribbean. Punta Cana in the east and La Romana on the south coast hold the majority of the resort courses, and both are within a reasonable transfer of an international airport. Courses here are resort golf in the best sense: wide corridors, dramatic oceanfront holes and conditioning kept for visitors rather than members. Many hotels operate on an all inclusive basis, so golf is usually added as a separate package or paid per round. Trade winds are a real factor and can change club selection by several clubs on exposed holes. The season runs strongest from December to April, with summer bringing heat, humidity and lower rates.

Best time to play: December to April for the driest weather; summer is hot, humid and cheaper.
