Golf handicap calculator

Add your recent rounds below and TeeLinkUp works out a World Handicap System style index for you. It's free, there's nothing to sign up for, and your scores stay on this device until you create an account.

How the handicap is calculated

Every round becomes a score differential: (score − course rating) × 113 ÷ slope rating. The calculator keeps your 20 most recent rounds, takes the best differentials from that set, averages them and applies the 0.96 factor used by the World Handicap System.

  • Course rating — the expected score for a scratch golfer, usually printed on the scorecard (often around 72.0).
  • Slope rating — how much harder the course plays for a bogey golfer. 113 is the neutral standard; the range is 55 to 155.
  • Rounds needed — you need at least three scores before an index appears. The more rounds you add, the more differentials are used.

Common questions

How many rounds do I need for a handicap?

Three 18-hole scores are enough for a first index. It settles down as you get toward 20 rounds.

Is this an official handicap?

No. It follows the same maths as the World Handicap System, but an official index has to come from an affiliated club or golf association. Use this for a fast, accurate estimate.

What if I don't know the slope rating?

Enter 113. That's the neutral value, so your differential becomes score minus course rating.
