Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, Vermont opened in 1900 to a Walter Travis and John Duncan Dunn design and is one of the oldest championship courses in the United States. The par-70 layout sits in the valley beneath Mount Equinox, with rumpled natural terrain, blind shots over a large hogback ridge, and small, firm greens defended by short grass rather than heavy bunkering. It hosted the 1914 U.S. Amateur and has been carefully restored to emphasize its original ground-game character and classic angles. Members and their guests play it walking, and the Vermont season generally runs from May through mid-October.
